This OIML International Document, elaborated in liaison with the Bureau International des Poids et Measures (BIPM) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), gives advice on the issues to be considered when drawing up national laws related to metrology. The need for this is reinforced by the increasing participation of States in trans-national, regional and international agreements following globalization of trade and services in which such laws provide the basis for dealing with the appropriate national measurement-based requirements. The legislation for which this Document provides advice may either be one general law covering all legal aspects of metrology or separate laws, each related to a specific aspect of metrology.
