This part of ISO/IEC 9281 specifies the procedures to be followed by a Registration Authority in preparing, maintaining and publishing a register of identifiers allocated to picture coding methods. The identifiers to which this part of ISO/IEC 9281 refers are those described in ISO/IEC 9281-1. An identifier registered in accordance with this part of ISO/IEC 9281 serves as an identification of the picture coding method associated with it in the register. Apart from such identification, registration does not affect the status of the method concerned. Thus, the registration procedure must be clearly distinguished from the standardization processes.
